Joanna is the loving wife of Jarmell McGill, proud mother of Jayla and Ja’Miya, business owner and praise & worship leader of His Will Worship Center. Joanna currently resides between Louisiana and Mississippi with her husband and two daughters. Joanna has always served in the music ministry throughout her life and she currently serves as Assistant to the Pastors and Church Administrator at His Will Worship Center in Slidell, Louisiana. She is quickly becoming a sought after artist and an award winning gospel singer.
Joanna stunned all in attendance when she was selected as the lead singer and soloist for her sixth grade graduation. Not even her fellow classmates could hold back the tears as she sang her heart out to a remake of Terry Ellis’ “Wherever You Are.” Even then, she had the ability to open her mouth and allow the melodious sounds to come out and pierce the hearts of all who heard.
During the 2015 Essence Festival when everyone else was trying to decide which seminar they would attend or what performances they wanted to see, Joanna was submitting an audition video singing an acapella rendition of “Amazing Grace” with the hopes of being accepted to compete for The Next Gospel Superstar. On the last day of the 2015 Essence Festival, she humbly took the Walmart Stage and ministered the song, “Amazing Grace.” It wasn’t hard for Detrick Haddon, Tamela Mann, and Phil Thorton to see the anointing of God and make their decision. She was amazed when David Mann announced her as the winner. Joanna Hale-McGill has stepped through an “Open Door,” the title of her debut single, and is using her gift to glorify God.
As part of the winnings for the Next Gospel Superstar Contest, Joanna was flown to Orlando, Florida where she recorded and performed her new single, “Open Door” written and produced by Detrick Haddon. During that time, she also recorded a new Top of The Hour Jingle for the Tom Joyner Morning Show. She even got to minister her new single “Open Door” as she opened for Yolanda Adams and Deitrick Haddon at the 2015 Tom Joyner Family Reunion.
In 2016, Joanna was asked to return to the Wal-Mart Stage at Essence Festival to minister in song and crown the 2016 winner of the Wal-Mart Next Gospel Superstar. In May of 2017, Joanna was given the opportunity to minister at the Johnnie Jackson Gospel is Alive event Sponsored by The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival along with the legendary Clark Sisters. Joanna’s show was a great inspiration to all in attendance. In 2018 Joanna received the Artist of The Year Award with the Gulf Coast Gospel Music Awards. 2019 is sure to be a year like no other!
Currently, Joanna completed her freshman album with McGill Music Group that will be released late Fall 2018. Her new single entitled, “Be Patient” is sure to bless the nations and hit the top of the gospel charts! Feel free to reach out to Joanna on all social media outlets.
